This feels like a somewhat random first post but… I’ve been thinking of starting a Substack for awhile and tonight pushed me over the edge. Sitting at dinner with my little family, I shared some random thoughts about Human Design and eating. I got the impression that they were bored (my two year old definitely was) but politely listening and nodding. SO I thought,
“Maybe there’s a better place for this.” And here I am. Maybe it will bore you too or maybe… just maybe, it’ll land.
So here it is…
Human Design is a self-discovery system with roots in Eastern and Western Astrology, the Chinese I’Ching, the Vedic Chakra system, the Kabbalah Tree of Life, and Quantum Physics. Heavy. Esoteric. Deep, deep, deep wisdom type stuff. It’s a beautiful system that helps us recognize how and who we are and gives us a roadmap for aligned decision-making, a path towards self-love and empathy, and a blueprint for optimizing how we work, play, and rest. As a Projector, part of my mission in life is to guide people and streamline systems. Over the past few years, I have fallen in love with making this system feel more tangible, relatable, and accessible in our modern world.
Getting to the point…
Tonight, as I was eating, I was thinking about HOW I eat and how it’s the perfect place for us all to “practice” or feel into or really begin to embody our Human Design in a safe, (literally) nourishing way.
Signature Themes…
In Human Design there are five types. Each type has a unique, generic mission in life and are all meant to support one another. Each type has a “signature theme” - it’s how and what we feel when we are “living in alignment”. Now, we can experience these themes in a wider sense, in a “macro” way that can apply across areas of our life, or we can cultivate and actively call in micro moments where we really FEEL what’s it’s like to be “living our theme”. That’s where tonight’s thoughts come in.
Stay with me…
If don’t know yours and you’d like to find out your type, you can go to mybodygraph.com or jovianarchive.com and pull your Human Design chart for free. If you know nothing about Human Design what comes next can still be helpful and you can figure the rest out later!
The types and themes are:
Manifestors: Peace
Generators: Satisfaction
Manifesting Generators: Peace/Satisfaction
Projectors: Success
Reflectors: Surprise
Now for the fun part…
Some things to consider, based on your type, when eating, thinking about eating, cooking, meal planning, etc.
Manifestor: Peace
Curate your eating environment so it brings you a sense of peace or calm
Challenge yourself to notice — what foods or amounts of food are settling to your stomach vs. activating?
Take a moment to center yourself before eating. That could be expressing gratitude, reading from a ‘daily meditation’ type book, setting an intention for the day or meal, or literally just taking a breath.
Definitely sit down to eat.
Generator: Satisfaction
Notice what ‘balance’ feels like to you - this could mean balancing food groups, colors, timing in your day, etc.
Notice what ‘satisfaction’ feels like to you - many of us, me included, eat past fullness or don’t eat enough due to time constraints, self-judgment, etc. Think of Goldilocks - what is just right to you? Know that’ll probably change depending on the day or meal!
Be mindful with your eating. Pause between bites and savor, what is really satisfying about that bite? Is it the texture? The taste? The spices? Pause and notice with each bite.
Manifesting Generator: Try prompts from the Manifestor and Generator sections, see what works.
Projector: Success
Identify what about mealtime helps you to feel your signature theme of success. It could be cooking your own meal, utilizing seasonal produce, being resourceful with what’s available to you, eating that right amount, etc.
Notice what foods energize and invigorate you and which ones slow you down.
Layer rituals and habits into meal time — maybe that’s a gratitude practice, getting 100 steps in after a meal, or immediately doing the dishes, etc.
Reflector: Surprise
Keep it interesting and playful! How can you bring surprise and delight into mealtime?
Play with different recipes or cuisines, allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised
Checkout different cookbooks from the library so you can try new things without purchasing tons of books or having to be glued to your device to try new recipes
Let friends and loves ones cook for you
Give yourself space to verbally process what you enjoyed about your meal — with folks you share your meal with or through journaling or audio journaling
That’s all, folks!
I have no intuitive eating programs to pitch or to sell you here. If you’re interested in Human Design or somatics or generally just trusting your beautiful body as primary decision-maker, check out what I have to offer at my website or reach out! I’d love to hear how this little activity went for you.
In everything - stay curious and savor the good.
